The Ethereum Foundation and Wanxiang Blockchain Labs has recently announced the International Blockchain Week in Shanghai, which will be a combination of Devcon and the Global Blockchain Summit. On September 19-24th, the event will have both Devcon presentations, a Demo Day, Blockchain Summit segments, and an optional sightseeing tour the day before the event commences.

Ethereum mentions in its blog post that there are quite a few reasons they decided to combine the two events. The Ethereum Foundation and Wanxiang Labs believe this collaboration will allow “greater interaction and opportunities for attendees to communicate, meet and participate across event segments.” Developers and industry leaders they say are planning to take part in both parts involving blockchain innovations and demonstrations.
The six-day event in Shanghai will feature “Ethereum developers who will introduce, present, and discuss the latest work and related considerations and topics of interest in Ethereum research and development.” Blockchain Summit segments will focus its attention on investors, venture capital firms, and startups. There will be panels of current industry leaders and innovators throughout the conference. Discussions will consist of blockchain use-cases, economic and social impact, and more throughout the week. Xiao Feng, Executive Director of Wanxiang Holdings, states in the press release:
I firmly believe this year’s International Blockchain Week in Shanghai will further promote the technology in China, provide an opportunity for sharing knowledge between countries, building a stronger relationship between talents, and encouraging the use of blockchain technology in start-ups. China Wanxiang Holding will continue to support Wanxiang Blockchain Labs with the goal of becoming an internationally recognized platform for blockchain innovation.
Event organizers say that Devcon2 and the 2nd Global Blockchain Summit will have a full event website available this May and are currently accepting speakers and presentations. The co-hosts hope they can show more people how blockchain technology can revolutionize finance and also be “utilized and deployed for trade and other industries.” Commenters on the blog post seemed excited about the announcement of the latest Devcon event. “Fair to say — everyone at Slock.it is looking forward to this!” said Stephan Tual of Slock.it, the Ethereum powered IoT startup.
Ethereum has continued to make headlines within the cryptocurrency community and has recently been implemented in Microsoft Windows operating systems. The currencies market value had taken a slight downturn since its rise a few weeks ago but has remained relatively stable since the price drop. However, keen interest in the digital currency and its development remains and people will be looking forward to this double feature event.
