Bitcoin AMA: Zooko Wilcox, CEO of Zcash, The ‘Privacy-Preserving’ Variant of Bitcoin

The biggest Ask-Me-Anything event in the history of Bitcoin will host its latest session with Zooko Wilcox, CEO of Zcash starting Monday, Feb 1 at 19:00 UTC. Formerly know as Zerocoin and Zerocash, Zcash is a privacy-focused Bitcoin alternative, some of whose advisors include Bitcoin Foundation’s Chief Scientist, Gavin Andresen and Ethereum Chief Scientist, Vitalik Buterin.

Zcash: A ‘Privacy-Preserving Variant’

The biggest Ask-Me-Anything event in the history of Bitcoin is proud to announce its latest session with the Zooko Wilcox, CEO of Zcash, that according to Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin, addresses the issues of scalability and privacy where Bitcoin does not.

“Zcash is a project to create a new currency for the Internet, inspired by Bitcoin,” Wilcox recently announced. “The improvement that we are adding is privacy … We have made scientific advances in the underlying mathematics, and built a working, privacy-preserving variant of the Bitcoin software.”

A public alpha technology preview of Zcash was released on GitHub on January 20th. The software is open-source and the company has “not applied for any patents on these inventions.” It believes that privacy is a human right that hinges on consent. Not only is privacy essential for individuals, but privacy is also required for a currency’s fungibility or in other words, all coins have the same value. This is also crucial for scalability and commerce as a whole.

“In an open and programmable financial system, financial privacy is the only way to ensure fungibility,” writes Wilcox.
