Airbitz says they have been hard at work with Airbitz SDK integrations, Glidera implementations, Edge Security partnerships, and now with the latest Plugin API. With this feature service, developers can develop fully integrated plugins for the Airbitz mobile application enabling third party services to collaborate with the company’s resources.

The plugins are HTML/Javascript applications embedded in the Airbitz app, which can access a variety of features. This includes sending/receiving funds, authenticate with BitID, and save private and encrypted data through the Airbitz Edge Security Platform. Airbitz says all the plugins are rigorously reviewed for quality and security in order to be verified by Airbitz for the next application release.  Paul Puey, Airbitz CEO states:

We’re excited by the potential of our new API and expect to see amazing integrations with applications such as marketplaces, exchanges, gift card vendors, remittance providers, games, and messaging apps.

Airbitz says the Plugin API was developed a year ago to help with the Glidera service to allow discounted Starbucks and Target cards by partnering with the Fold application. Airbitz COO Will Pangman said in the announcement:

Others have talked about offering plugin APIs, we’ve just delivered it.

Mobile Top-ups Right from the Wallet

The firm has already established the first collaborative effort with the Bitcoin company Bitrefill. The service provides a mobile credit purchasing platform that enables phone top ups using Bitcoin within 143 countries worldwide. The next release of the Airbitz app will allow its user base to also top up their prepaid mobile phones from over 600 operators across the specific countries Bitrefill covers.

The Bitcoin wallet company says the Plugin API will improve user experience with Bitcoin dramatically. For example, the platform will enable access to services without the hassle of copying and pasting addresses, scanning QR codes, or toggling between other applications. Furthermore with the Bitcoin wallet Plugin API and the already released Airbitz SDK will enable integrations and external support with applications such as the Arcade City mobile ride-sharing app, expected to release on September 1, 2016.
